Despite the fact that I'm a hand model now 🤌🏽.. What is Mandelic Acid? Mandelic Acid is derived from bitter almonds. Acidity wise it is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) which are a group of plant and animal-derived acids 🧬 - in this case almonds - used in a variety of skincare products to promote healthy cell turnover by means of exfoliation. Longer version is they loosen connections between impacted surface skin cells (called desmosomes) to allow the cells to shed naturally leading to a fresher, brighter complexion. Mandelic Acid is a chemical exfoliant; meaning it removes layers of older skin cells via a chemical reaction with the skin. By releasing skin cells attached to the surface of the skin, it works to increase cell turnover which reduces the appearance of acne as well as skin/sun damage. A main benefit of this chemical exfoliant, is that it is GENTLER on the skin compared to other AHA's (due to its' larger molecular size). Which allows for slower epidermal penetration (outermost layer of your skin) resulting in more even exfoliation and LESS irritation.
